Program Overview:

This training program is an intensive vision correction surgery fellowship designed for overseas ophthalmologists held at BGSS Eye Clinic, a leading institution in vision correction surgery in South Korea.
The program focuses on laser vision correction procedures (SMILE LASIK, SMILE Pro) and implantable collamer lens surgeries (ICL, V-Toric ICL)., cataract and multifocal laser cataract surgery. It is an advanced, observation-based training course that allows participants to learn real-world clinical standards across the full continuum of care from diagnosis , surgery to postoperative management.
Lectures and live surgery observations are led directly by Dr. Jong-Ho Lee, CEO, Founder of BGSS Eye Clinic, a pioneer of refractive surgery in Korea and an official STAAR Surgical ICL Instructor, along with the clinic’s experienced medical team.

This program focuses on ZEISS SMILE and SMILE Pro (laser refractive surgeries), implantable collamer lens surgery (ICL and V-Toric ICL), and laser-assisted multifocal cataract surgery.

The course is structured around clinical observation, enabling participants to observe the full clinical workflow, from comprehensive preoperative diagnostics and surgical decision-making to live surgery observation and postoperative management.
Through expert-led lectures and real-world case discussions, participants gain insight into standardized clinical protocols, complication management strategies, and approaches to optimizing of visual outcomes.

The aim of this program is to share practical clinical standards and accumulated surgical expertise, helping participants to confidently apply advanced concepts within their own clinical settings.

Training Program Overview

This intensive, hands-on training program delivers advanced professional education in modern refractive and cataract surgery. The curriculum covers laser vision correction procedures including ZEISS SMILE and SMILE Pro, lens implantation techniques such as ICL and V-Toric ICL, and laser-assisted multifocal intraocular lens (IOL) cataract surgery.

The program is led by Dr. Jong-Ho Lee, CEO of BGSS Eye Clinic, a recognized pioneer in Korea’s refractive surgery field and an official ICL Instructor for STAAR Surgical. Through a combination of expert lectures and live surgery observation, the course is designed to share the latest surgical techniques and real-world clinical expertise with international ophthalmologists.

BGSS Eye Clinic has played a defining role in the evolution of vision correction in Korea. The clinic introduced LASEK surgery in 1997 and ICL implantation in 2002. In 2020, BGSS developed the world’s first V-ICL (Toric ICL for astigmatism correction), and in 2023 became the first clinic in Korea to adopt ZEISS SMILE Pro, continuing its leadership in advanced laser vision correction.

Participants will receive comprehensive theoretical instruction alongside practical training, including hands-on operation of SMILE and SMILE Pro systems, ICL and V-Toric ICL implantation techniques, and laser-assisted multifocal IOL procedures. The program also includes practical guidance on surgical equipment setup, operating room workflow, and postoperative management—ensuring immediate clinical applicability in real-world practice.
